UWP and UNISMA Collaboration in Preparing Competitive English Literature Graduates
In facing the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, the Faculty of Languages & Literature, Wijaya Putra University (FBS UWP) implemented a collaboration with the English Language Education Department of the Islamic University of Malang (PBI UNISMA) to hold a Public Lecture entitled "Bachelor of English Literature in the AI Era: Answering Challenges, Seizing Opportunities". This event took place at the FBS UWP Building, Benowo Campus, the purpose of the activity was to equip students and academics with insights and strategies that remain relevant amidst digital disruption and strengthen the position of both campuses as pioneers of adaptive literary education in the digital era.
To face AI disruption with innovation, the Dean of FBS UWP, Yeni Probowati, S.Pd., M.Pd., in her speech emphasized that AI is not a threat, but a tool that can be used to expand the scope of literary and linguistic science. "Graduates of English Literature must adapt by utilizing AI for research, translation, and even creative content development," she said.
The main speaker, Prof. Dr. Dwi Fita Heriyawati, M.Pd, Lecturer of PBI UNISMA, explained how AI such as ChatGPT and DeepL can be partners in learning foreign languages. "The key is to master critical analysis skills and creativity that cannot be completely replaced by machines," she explained.
The event was closed with a workshop on introducing AI tools for literary research which is expected to make students not only passive users, but also creators of solutions based on English literary science with the support of technology.
