Efforts to maintain the sustainability of Jombang batik continue to be intensified. Through a community service program, a team of lecturers from Wijaya Putra University (UWP), along with academic partners from the Adhi Tama Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITATS), are implementing new innovations to improve the quality and competitiveness of local batik in the national market.

This program received funding support from the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the 2025 fiscal year. The main focus is to increase the capacity and quality of batik production based on green management concepts.

The head of the implementing team, Prof. Dr. Nugroho Mardi Wibowo, S.E., M.Si., explained that this community service program is carried out by a team of lecturers, including Yuyun Widiasuti, S.E., M.M. and Siswadi, S.T., M.Si. (UWP), and Achmad Chusnun Ni'am, S.Si., M.T., Ph.D. (ITATS). He stated that a classic problem facing batik MSMEs lies in the color fixation stage, which is still done manually.

"Just two pieces of cloth can take almost an hour. The results are also less than optimal because the colors fade quickly. This clearly makes it difficult for batik to compete in the market," he said.

To address this issue, the UWP team introduced the Batik Fixation Machine as an appropriate technology. This tool can speed up the process to 20 pieces of cloth per hour, a tenfold increase compared to traditional methods. Furthermore, the color quality is sharper, more durable, and more consistent.

This program involved two batik MSMEs in Jombang: Batik Berkah Mojo, owned by Nusa Amin in Mojoagung, and Pesona Batik Jombang, owned by Nunuk Rachmawati in Jabon Village. Both partners received not only equipment but also business management guidance.

The training materials covered the use of the fixation machine, product diversification strategies, export management, green branding, and expanding collaboration networks.

"We don't just provide technology, but also knowledge so that MSMEs can compete in an increasingly competitive market," added Prof. Nugroho.

With this comprehensive approach, it is hoped that Jombang batik will not only survive the onslaught of the modern textile industry but also thrive with environmentally friendly added value. The green management concept promoted is considered a model for MSME development in various regions.

"We want Jombang batik to become a superior product that not only has cultural value but is also able to penetrate the global market through innovation," emphasized Prof. Nugroho.
