Wijaya Putra University's English study program held a webinar titled Book Translation for Beginner on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. The Key note speaker was F.X. Dono Sunardi, M.A., lecturer in English Literature at Ma Chung University and a professional translator who already has not a few translations. This webinar is organized using the zoom application and 'live streaming' on you tube.

In this webinar the keynote speaker provides steps for the general public or students who want to start their careers in the translation world. The Key Note speaker also shared his experience of how he began work and continued production in the world of translation. Dono Sunardi also revealed a little more translation theory that can be used for novice translators.

It was stated that to become a translator the first step to do is to prepare a portfolio since attending college. This portfolio will be offered to institutions or publishers as one of the considerations. To make the portfolio more reliable, Dono recommends that students build a complete translation of a book.

This webinar was attended by more than 150 participants at zoom and over 50 viewers on you tube. Participants came from various universities and institutes from Sabang to Merauke as well as several translator practitioners from various regions in the archipelago.

The purpose of this webinar is to provide nutritious intake for students, especially regarding business opportunities that can be done by prospective Sasstra scholars in the world of translation and provide tricks and tips for general public who are interested in becoming professional translators.

In general, this activity can be carried out quite smoothly and successfully get a positive response with the number of participants who participated in it as well as the number of questions asked during this webinar activity. Hopefully in the future the English Literature Study Program at Wijaya Putra University will be able to hold academic activities which not only involve the UWP internal quality but also the general public and academics in this beloved archipelago.
