Wijaya Putra University Holds Innovative Workshop: Equipping Grade XII High School Students with Sociopreneur Skills
Universitas
Wijaya Putra (UWP) has once again demonstrated its commitment to contributing
to the education and skills development of the younger generation. Taking place
on the UWP campus on May 6, 2025, dozens of grade XII students from SMA Wijaya
Putra (SWP) Surabaya enthusiastically participated in two innovative workshops:
Solar Power Plant (PLTS) and Rostary Barista Kopi. This activity aims to equip
students with knowledge and practical skills that are relevant to current
technological developments and industry trends.
The PLTS
Workshop, organized by the UWP Faculty of Engineering, provides students with
an in-depth understanding of the working principles, components, and basic
installations of solar power generation systems. In the practical session,
participants were invited to see firsthand and even try to assemble simple
solar panel components under the guidance of lecturers and expert practitioners
from the UWP Faculty of Engineering. This activity is very relevant considering
the increasing importance of renewable energy in the future.
On the other
hand, the Rostary Barista Kopi workshop offers a unique experience for students
who are interested in the world of coffee. Guided by baristas Awal Semangat and
Rengga Vembritanto, ST. who are FT UWP alumni, participants are taught starting
from the coffee bean roasting process, brewing techniques for various types of
coffee, to latte art. This workshop not only introduces the business potential
in the coffee industry, but also fosters an appreciation for the process behind
a cup of coffee.
According to Ong
Andre Wahyu Riyanto, ST., MT., Dean of the UWP Faculty of Engineering,
"This PLTS workshop is part of our effort to introduce renewable energy to
the younger generation from an early age. We hope that students can see the
career potential in this field and be motivated to study it further."
In line with
that, Surya Priyambudi, S.Pd., M.Pd., UWP Public Relations & Cooperation
Bureau stated, "The coffee industry continues to grow rapidly. Through
this barista workshop, we want to open students' insights about opportunities
in this creative industry and show that being a barista is not just about
making coffee, but also a promising art and business."
The workshop
participants looked very enthusiastic and actively asked questions during the
theory and practice sessions. Nadien Maycha, a SWP Surabaya student said,
"I am very interested in solar energy. This workshop opened my eyes that
this technology is not as difficult as imagined and is very useful for the
future." Meanwhile, Gadis Davina, a SWP Surabaya student commented,
"I like coffee, and this barista workshop is really fun! I learned the
process from beans to delicious drinks."
This workshop
activity is one of the UWP Kampus Berdampak educational programs designed to
bridge the world of secondary education with higher education, while also
providing additional skills for students. It is hoped that through this
activity, grade XII high school students will get a clearer picture of their
interests and potential, and be inspired to continue their education to a
higher level in their field of interest.
