WIJAYA PUTRA 44th DIES NATALIS SERIES, BEM UWP HOLDS SEMINAR ON VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND WOMEN
The Wijaya
Putra University Student Executive Board (BEM UWP) held a seminar entitled
"Violence Against Children and Women in the Digital Era: Legal Aspects and
Prevention" on Friday, January 24 2025.
The resource
persons at the seminar were Tis'at Afriyandi, S.H., M.H., who is an academic
and advocate at the Surabaya Children Crisis Center (SCCC) and Aironi Zuroida,
M.Psi., a psychologist who is a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Wijaya
Putra University and guided by the moderator, namely Puguh Alexander from BEM
UWP.
In the
presentation session, Tis'at Afriyandi started from the fact that the rate of
violence against women and children is still high. One of them stems from
violence that arises from internet use.
"There is
Cyber Bullying, Cyber Fraud, Porn, Cyber Gambling, and Cyber Stalking.
This is what must be a concern in the development of the digital world,"
he explained.
He explained
that the modes of crime against children and women in the digital world include
profiling, grooming, transmission and exploitation. Therefore, the state pays
special attention to providing legal protection for children and women.
"Indonesia
has provided protection through a number of laws and regulations such as the
Sexual Violence Crime Law, Child Violence Law, ITE Law and so on. However, the
public is still unfamiliar with these regulations, so it is our collective duty
to provide understanding to the public," he said.
Next, the
second resource person, Aironi Zuroida, discussed it from a psychological
perspective. He explained that digital violence occurs due to the widespread
distribution of violent and insulting content so that it is considered normal
for society.
"As a
result, people's empathy for victims is reduced," said Aironi.
He emphasized
preventive and repressive measures to reduce the rate of violence against
children and women. One of them emphasizes the important role of the family.
“Both parents
are required to play an active role in parenting, including the role of the
father. Moreover, Indonesia is a country with the highest rate of
fatherlessness in the world." he said.
Apart from
that, he added that the role of the Government, communities including
universities is also important in building a harmonious society, both
preventive and curative. Collaboration between relevant stakeholders is the
most important key.
Enthusiasm was
evident from the many questions submitted by the seminar participants. Seminar
participants came from the entire academic community of Wijaya Putra University
and Wijaya Putra School as well as a number of representatives of high school
and equivalent schools throughout West Surabaya.
Chairman of the
Student Affairs Bureau and CDC, Suprayoga, S.E., M.Si., in his speech said that
this seminar was a series of activities in the framework of the 44th
Anniversary of Wijaya Putra. He said that the entire series of Dies Natalis
activities were carried out in line with Wijaya Putra's vision, namely
Excellence, Sociopreneur and Publication.
"Hopefully
this study can bring the Wijaya Putra academic community to be more critical of
social problems such as violence against women and children, in line with the
vision of Wijaya Putra University," he said.
