UWP Students Develop Mobile Tour Guide App and Analyze Sentiment at Surabaya Zoo
Three students from the Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Wijaya Putra University, successfully developed an innovative mobile tour guide application aimed at enhancing the visitor experience at Surabaya Zoo. The handover of the mobile application program was conducted by UWP to the Surabaya Zoo Animal Park Management Office on October 28, 2025, at the Surabaya Zoo. They also conducted sentiment analysis on visitor reviews and comments to understand the level of satisfaction and areas for improvement at Surabaya Zoo.
The three students, Fahrizal Aulia Rachman, Laily Alfina Wulansari, and Heru Hermanto (Informatics Engineering students), got the idea for this innovation from the needs of tourists who wanted an interactive and informative guide during their visit. The application they created features an interactive navigation map, information about various animal collections, and efficient route directions. Furthermore, through sentiment analysis of visitor review data on Google Reviews, zoo management can understand visitor experiences and satisfaction levels in real time.
The Head of the Informatics Engineering Department, Mr. Alven Safik Ritonga, Ssi., M.Sc., stated that this project is the result of the students' final assignment and is a clear demonstration of their creativity in applying technology for the community. "We hope this application can help visitors enjoy the Surabaya Zoo with a more enjoyable and informative experience," he said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UWP, Mr. Ong Andre Wahyu Riyanto, ST., welcomed this innovation and supported the development of technology that benefits the community. He added that this activity is part of UWP's efforts to encourage students to become innovators and drivers of community-based technology.
With this application and the sentiment analysis conducted, it is hoped that the Surabaya Zoo management can continue to improve the quality of its services and facilities, thereby enhancing the visitor experience and making the zoo a leading educational tourism destination.
