Wijaya Putra University (UWP) lecturers again show their concern for the community. This time, their focus is on developing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Babat Jerawat Village, Surabaya. Through training programs, mentoring and providing production machine equipment, UWP lecturers hope to improve the quality of MSME products, especially in the field of processed cakes and expand their marketing network.

This time, through the Community Service (PKM) achievement grant selection program for the 2024 Fiscal Year Community-Based Empowerment scheme of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, UWP lecturers want to realize the economic independence of civil society in managing and developing trade.

"We provide training, assistance and production equipment for MSMEs engaged in cake processing," said the Head of the PKM Program, Dwi Elok Indriastuti, SH., M.Hum..

For this Community-Based Empowerment program, said Dwi Elok, he worked on this program with two other UWP Surabaya lecturers, namely Surya Priyambudi, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Dr. Trisa Indrawati, MM. This program is in the form of PKM Economic Independence for Joint Business Groups Based on Digital Economy in Babat Jerawat Village, Pakal District, Surabaya City.

Madani villages are an implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which operate in four main pillars, namely social; economy; environment; governance; and law. So, starting from June 2024 until now, the UWP Lecturer team is conducting training and mentoring partners' knowledge about food safety, sanitation and personal hygiene; assistance in processing NIB (Business Identification Number), halal and trademark certificates; provision of mixer, grinder and gas oven equipment; training and assistance in innovation in making processed cake products; regular financial recording training and assistance; training and assistance in carrying out promotions via social media; sales training and assistance via eCommerce; training and assistance in taking product photos via cellphone; and training and assistance in making product videos via cellphone.

The Secretary of the Babat Jerawat Village, Sri Wahyuni, SE, expressed his gratitude for paying attention to MSMEs, especially in the Babat Jerawat Village, Pakal District, Surabaya. Hopefully, with this Community Service activity, the residents will have economic independence to create a civil village by helping each other's local residents.

Almost overall, the Community Partnership Empowerment program activities carried out by the UWP Lecturer team have had a positive impact. It is hoped that this community service activity will be able to encourage MSMEs to innovate in developing the business world because they have additional digital-based competencies which are very influential in the current era. .

If they are successful in this business, they will not only be able to build their own business but will also be able to recruit new workers to open up job opportunities for the local community. Said Dwi Elok.
