UWP Impactful on SMK Hidayatul Ummah Gresik as a Vocational School of the Future
Wijaya Putra
University (UWP) has once again demonstrated its commitment to community
service through a collaborative program with SMK Hidayatul Ummah Gresik
(SMEKHUM). Embracing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the program focuses on
three main pillars: Hydroponic-Based Food Security, Halal Bakery Product
Processing, and School Management Assistance.
This program
is designed to transform SMEKHUM into an independent, competitive school
capable of empowering local potential, particularly in addressing the
challenges of food security and the creative economy.
As the
program's foundation, UWP introduces and develops a modern hydroponic-based
agricultural system within the school environment. A team of lecturers and
students from the Agribusiness Study Program provides not only theoretical
training but also full support in the construction of the hydroponic
installation.
"We chose
this hydroponic technology because it's efficient, doesn't require a large
area, and is suitable for teaching teachers. Teachers not only learn how to
grow crops but also understand the principles of science, technology, and
entrepreneurship behind it. Produce like lettuce, kale, and bok choy can be
used for school consumption or for sale," explained Dr. Heri Susanto, SP.,
MM., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at UWP.
The second
program focuses on creating halal and marketable bakery products. Teachers are
taught to create various products such as bread, cookies, and pastries using
innovative local ingredients. Equally important, UWP also assists with the
halal certification process for these products. "With halal certification,
the teachers' bakery products are not only delicious and creative, but also
have a clear halal guarantee. This provides strong added value in the market,
especially within the school environment," added Surya Priyambudi, S.Pd.,
M.Pd., Head of the UWP Public Relations & Cooperation Bureau.
The third
program is strengthening school management. UWP provides assistance in
developing a business plan, managing Teaching Factory finances, and providing
school management strategies.
"We are
helping SMEKHUM build a structured and refined school management system,
readying it to become a vocational school of the future," explained Dr.
Budi Endarto, SH., M.Hum., UWP Rector.
The
UWP-SMEKHUM collaborative program is expected to be more than a one-off
project, but rather a sustainable model.
