To Celebrate Independence Day, UWP Holds Competition
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day, Wijaya Putra University (UWP) held several competitions from August 7 to 15, 2025, at the UWP Benowo Campus. The entire UWP academic community, including students, lecturers, and educators, participated in the competitions.
The competitions were divided into two categories: individual and group competitions. Individual competitions included cracker-eating, glass-blowing, and ball-dancing. Group competitions included hammering relay, cardboard relay, and pencil-throwing.
The excitement was palpable throughout the competitions, especially in the group competitions, which required strong teamwork. Humorous moments were often shared throughout the competitions. The committee also offered a variety of prizes, including household necessities and stationery, vacation tickets, and even surprises in mystery boxes.
The Head of the Committee, Surya Priyambudi, S.Pd., M.Pd., stated that the Independence Day competition is an annual tradition held to celebrate Independence Day. "We want the students, lecturers, staff, and residents around the UWP campus who participate in the competition to feel the joy of independence. This year is especially special, as we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence," said Surya, who is also the Head of the UWP Public Relations and Cooperation Bureau.
Meanwhile, UWP Rector, Dr. Budi Endarto, S.H., M.Hum., stated that the Independence Day competition has a meaning beyond togetherness. "This tradition of competition is a way to foster a sense of nationalism. It also serves as a reminder that the independence we enjoy today was achieved through the hard work and extraordinary struggle of our heroes," Budi said.
He also emphasized that the competition can foster social solidarity, fostering a sense of harmony and cooperation without social barriers.
"This is what we want: a growing sense of solidarity and symbiosis between the community and university staff, which aligns with UWP's vision as a Sociopreneur Campus," he concluded.
