The Surabaya City Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to forming a young generation who are ready to become future leaders. Through the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports and Tourism (Disbudporapar), the City Government held a Leadership Training for Youth at the Wiyung Campus, Wijaya Putra University (UWP) Surabaya on May 22-23, 2025.

A total of 50 youths from various regions in Surabaya participated in the intensive training for two days. This event was opened by the Head of the Youth Division of Disbudporapar, Erringgo Perkasa, who was present with the Head of Youth Section, Achmad, and representatives of UWP, Dr. Suwarno Abadi, SH., M.Si, as the Head of the Master of Law Study Program.

"We want to form leadership character in young people in Surabaya. At a minimum, they can lead themselves before leading others," said Erringgo Perkasa in his speech. Not only focusing on leadership, this training also presents public speaking and podcast making sessions, which aim to foster self-confidence and courage to appear in public.

In this training, two expert speakers were presented. Dr. Zuni Eka Tiyas Rifayanti, M.Pd, Lecturer at STKIP BIM Surabaya, presented material on the concept of leadership for the millennial generation and Gen Z. While Arif Ardliyanto, S.Sos.I., M.I.Kom, Editor-in-Chief of iNewsSurabaya.id, provided public speaking training and direct practice in making podcasts.

"The children are very enthusiastic. They are eager to learn and show a strong desire to develop," said Dr. Zuni, who is familiarly called Zetri. She also hopes that this kind of training can be held routinely.

Meanwhile, Dr. Suwarno Abadi welcomed this activity positively. He opened up opportunities for further collaboration with the Surabaya City Government to hold similar training at three UWP campuses, namely in Benowo, Wiyung, and Prigen.

"We are ready to support positive activities for young people. Hopefully, training like this can continue at UWP campuses," he said

Through this training, the Surabaya City Government hopes to be able to produce young leaders who are visionary, communicative, and adaptive to developments, especially in the digital era that demands creativity and courage to appear in public spaces.
