Ministry of Health Surabaya Hospital and Wijaya Putra University Hold Sharing Session: Protect the Nation's Generation from HIV/AIDS

    Surabaya, December 6, 2024 – In order to commemorate World AIDS Day which falls on December 1, the Ministry of Health of Surabaya Hospital in collaboration with Wijaya Putra University held a sharing session themed "Protect the Nation's Generation by Preventing and Controlling HIV AIDS".

    The event, which took place at Dome Building A, Wijaya Putra University, Benowo Campus, was attended by medical personnel, deans, heads of study programs, and students. The main objective of this activity is to provide a deep understanding of the importance of preventing and controlling HIV/AIDS, especially among the younger generation who are vulnerable to the spread of this virus.

    Vice Chancellor 3 for Student Affairs, Dr. Esa Wahyu Endarti, M.Sc., said in his remarks that cross-sector collaboration is key to reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia. "We must provide continuous education, especially for the younger generation who are the backbone of the nation. Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS requires synergy between the government, the world of education, and the wider community," he said.

    The discussion session presented several expert speakers, including dr. Christian Jonathan, Sp.PD, an internal medicine specialist, dr. Cut Shelma, Sp.DVE, a dermatologist and venereal disease specialist and dr. Nur Hidayati, Sp.A. a pediatrician who discussed the psychosocial impact of HIV/AIDS on the younger generation.

    Universities have a strategic role in educating the public. Activities like this are very relevant to building collective awareness of pressing health issues.

    Through this activity, it is hoped that all participants can become agents of change in their respective communities to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and protect the nation's generation.
