Collaboration of UWP Lecturers and Students, Creates Modern Technology for Banana Chip Business in Surabaya

Surabaya continues to innovate for the betterment of society. This time, UWP
lecturers and students worked together to develop the Community Partnership
Program (PKM) which focuses on Community Service 2024 in the field of Green
Economy.
This program brings innovation in
using composter tubes to process banana peel waste into organic fertilizer,
with the aim of strengthening the green economy in society.
In its implementation, PKM
collaborated with Sukri, owner of the JOYO banana chips business, which is
located in Pakal, Surabaya, around 2.2 kilometers from the UWP campus. Through
this program, the UWP team is trying to help Sukri increase its limited production
capacity and quality.
The PKM team consists of Erwan
Aristyanto, UWP Economics lecturer who is the team leader, accompanied by
Khubbi Abdillah and Astria Hindratmo (UWP Economics and Engineering lecturers),
as well as three UWP students: Adi Putra Pratama, Giovanni Firmansyah Putra,
and Yulianus Wawan from the Economics study program and Industrial Engineering.
After analyzing the problem, the
team found that the production of Sukri banana chips was still carried out
traditionally and was less efficient. Production capacity is low, while product
quality is also less than optimal.
Other problems faced are a lack of
hygiene, the use of production equipment that wastes fuel, and inadequate food
safety standards.
"The main aim of this program
is to increase production capacity and increase partner turnover,"
explained Erwan Aristyanto.
