To enhance the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, Wijaya Putra University (UWP) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Cooperation Agreement (MoA) with the Pengalangan Village Government, Menganti District, Gresik Regency. The signing, which took place solemnly in the Pengalangan Village Hall on Thursday, April 2, 2026, aims to expand synergy between academia and the community.

The MoU signing was conducted by the UWP Rector and the Pengalangan Village Head, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership at the university level. The MoA signing was specifically conducted between the Dean of the UWP Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the Pengalangan Village Head, as a technical follow-up to the previously established master agreement.

The scope of this collaboration includes three integrated flagship programs: the Community Service Program (KKN), where students will be deployed to live alongside and help solve real-life problems faced by the residents of Pengalangan Village; the Telkom Innovillage funding program, a student innovation program that creates creative solutions and appropriate technologies based on local potential; and the Community Service Program (PKM), where lecturers conduct action research, outreach, and professional mentoring in the fields of engineering and social empowerment.

In his message, UWP Rector, Dr. Budi Endarto, M.Hum., expressed his high appreciation to the Pengalangan Village Government. He emphasized that this MoU is not merely an administrative ceremony, but a real commitment to making UWP a Leading University in Research-Based Sociopreneurship Development by 2030.

"We want students to be not only theoretically proficient but also socially sensitive. Pengalangan Village will become a living laboratory for them to learn to solve problems and serve," said the Rector.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at UWP, Ong Andre Wahyu Riyanto, ST., MT., added that the Innovillage program was a highlight of this MoA. His institution has sent lecturers and students who were selected for funding from Telkom's Innovillage program to assist the village in developing IoT for chili plantations.

The Head of Pengalangan Village, Ahyar Abdul Mutholib, S.Pd., welcomed this collaboration. He stated that the presence of UWP and the Faculty of Engineering is a breath of fresh air for accelerating village development.

"We have a lot of potential, but are hampered by human resources and technology. With KKN (Community Service Program), Innovillage, and the dedication of lecturers, we are optimistic that Pengalangan Village can become more advanced and independent," said the Village Head.

The signing ceremony concluded with a discussion and friendly gathering between UWP academics, village officials, and community leaders. Both parties agreed to immediately develop a technical schedule for the program's implementation in the field in the near future.

With this collaboration, it is hoped that the synergy between UWP, specifically the Faculty of Engineering, and Pengalangan Village can become a model for sustainable collaboration between universities and village governments, directly impacting the well-being of the Gresik community.
